Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 2, 2026
Welcome to Glean ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience on our platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
We may collect information about you in a variety of ways. The information we may collect via the Service includes:
- Personal Data: Personally identifiable information, such as your name, email address, and profile picture, which you voluntarily give to us when you register with the Service or when you choose to participate in various activities related to the Service (such as Google Sign-In).
- Location Data: We may request access or permission to track location-based information from your mobile device, either continuously or while you are using our mobile application, to provide location-based services (like finding nearby shelters or pantries). You can change our access or permissions at any time in your device's settings.
- Usage Data: Information our servers automatically collect when you access the Service, such as your native actions that are integral to the Service, device type, and operating system.
2. How We Use Your Information
Having accurate information about you permits us to provide you with a smooth, efficient, and customized experience. Specifically, we may use information collected about you to:
- Create and manage your account.
- Provide real-time location-based crisis routing and support network details.
- Enable peer-to-peer micro-grid functionalities and manage your interactions.
- Improve the functionality and safety of the Service.
- Communicate with you regarding updates, security alerts, and support messages.
3. Disclosure of Your Information
We may share information we have collected about you in certain situations. Your information may be disclosed as follows:
- By Law or to Protect Rights: If we believe the release of information about you is necessary to respond to legal process, to investigate or remedy potential violations of our policies, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of others, we may share your information as permitted or required by any applicable law, rule, or regulation.
- Third-Party Service Providers: We may share your information with third parties that perform services for us or on our behalf, including data analysis, email delivery, hosting services (like Firebase and Netlify), and customer service.
- Interactions with Other Users: If you interact with other users of the Service, those users may see your name, profile photo, and descriptions of your activity within the community network.
4. Security of Your Information
We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect your personal information. While we have taken reasonable steps to secure the personal information you provide to us, please be aware that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse.
5. Zero-Tolerance Policy on Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE)
Glean maintains a strict, zero-tolerance policy against any form of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) or Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE). We are committed to keeping our platform safe and strictly adhere to all international laws and Google Play Developer Policies regarding child safety.
- Prohibited Content: Any content that depicts, encourages, promotes, or facilitates the sexual abuse or exploitation of children is strictly prohibited on the Service.
- Immediate Action: If we become aware of any user uploading, sharing, or engaging with CSAM or CSAE content, we will instantly terminate their account, preserve the associated data, and report the individual to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and relevant law enforcement authorities.
- Reporting Mechanism: If you encounter any content on our platform that you suspect involves the exploitation of a minor, please report it immediately to our safety team at safety@glean.app or use the in-app reporting tools.
6. Policy for Children
We do not knowingly solicit information from or market to children under the age of 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.
7. Deleting Your Account and Your Data
You can delete your account at any time, and you do not need to contact us to do it. In the app, open Network Settings, scroll to Danger Zone, and choose Delete Account. You can also make the request from a browser at glean-api.glean-369.workers.dev/delete-account.
Deleted immediately and permanently:
- Your sign-in credentials and account record.
- Your profile, including your node name, saved location and dietary preferences.
- Every surplus item you have cast, and any organization listing or bed availability you published.
- Your presence record on the live network.
Retained, with your identity removed: completed handoff records remain on the impact ledger, which is append-only by design so that donation history cannot be rewritten. These records contain no name, email address or location — only an account identifier that no longer corresponds to any person once your account is deleted. Messages you sent to another organization remain in that organization's copy of the conversation, in the same way an email you sent remains in the recipient's inbox.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Effective Date" of this Privacy Policy.
